Chess is a two player strategy game played a board dividied into 64 squared by a 8x8 grid. The game is played with Chess pieces, each side having one king, one queen two rooks, two bishops, two knights and eight pawns. The goal is to checkmate the opponents king, which means cornering the king in such a way that it cannot move without getting captured
Chess has history spanning over thousands of years, it is believed to have originated in India around 6th century with a different name, the game then spread to Persia known as Shatranj which resembells the modern chess pieces, the arrived in Europe around 9th century and more moves were introduced for bishops and queen which is identical to modern Chess. The 20th century saw the rise of Chess as a sport with the establishment of Chess Federation in 1924.
